Yes, she may have been in the news recently for making big bucks from small appearances, but now reports are that Bollywood sex-kitten Mallika Sherawat has signed a film for free.The lucky producer is Ronnie Screwvala whose next unnamed film has been signed by Mallika for free.It is to be mentioned here that all actors and actresses pocket an amount when they sign a film, which is called signing amount.Mallika has been in the news recently because of her ten-minute Rs. 1.5 crore act in Himesh Reshammiya ’s debut movie as an actor Aap Ka Suroor and this was not the first time she did an expensive stint.Earlier too, Mallika charged a huge amount for just an item song in Guru and how can one forget the new year bash where she has been paid in lakhs for a ten-minute performance by a Mumbai based five star hotel.So Screwvala should be thanking to his stars that Mallika has signed his film for free.While on ‘Aap Ka Suroor’, its main attraction is said to be Mallika’s ‘Mehbooba’ number.Asha Bhosle has provided the vocals for the song Mehbooba which is a tribute to Panchamda. Mallika adds spice to the screen with her moves while dancing to mystic and eternally alluring Mehbooba.The song has Mallika dressed in a beautiful emerald green gypsy costume and she looks stunningly sexy. The costume is designed by Ashley Rebello. According to sources, this outfit was made as a tribute to Helen , who danced to the original ‘Mehbooba’ number in the cult classic Sholay .Mallika is planning to auction the same outfit on the film’s release date, June 29. The venue for the event is yet to be decided, but if reports are to be believed the event will be held at the film’s premiere in Mumbai.

Meghna Naidu plays a sex worker

Meghna Naidu enacts the role of a sex worker in a film that aims to expose some harsh realities of rural India.The movie, titled Rivaaz , is made by Ashok Nanda. The film’s story is based on true facts about certain Indian villages where flesh trade is the livelihood of people. Women in such villages are pushed into prostitution while men become their pimps.In ‘Rivaaz’, Meghna plays a girl named Chanda in one such village. Although her mother and father prompt her to become a prostitute, Chanda is against this tradition. And when she finally does succumb, she is unable to get customers and is beaten by her brother. Ashok Nanda reportedly did extensive research on the subject. He has also visited some of these villages under cover.When Meghna first heard the movie’s subject, she refused to believe that such villages exist anymore. But Ashok Nanda provided her with irrefutable proof. That’s when she realized the harsh realities many girls live under in these villages.Meghna says working in ‘Rivaaz’ was a very disturbing experience. Even though she was playing just a character, she was disturbed to see how parents push their daughters into prostitution.‘Rivaaz’ was mainly shot in Wai in Maharashtra. The movie also stars Deepti Naval and Alok Nath .

Shilpa Shetty has received the Silver Star Award for her outstanding contribution to international humanitarian causes, particularly for spreading awareness of AIDS/HIV among people.Labour Leader of House of Commons Jack Straw presented the award to the 31-year old actor at Durbar Court in Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Friday night, as part of the celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the election of Keith Vaz, the NRI leader, Labour MP and former minister for FCO.In her brief acceptance speech, Shetty, the winner of last Celebrity Big Brother show, said Vaz had played an important role when she was racially abused by some of the contestants. "He screamed the loudest," she acknowledged.Lauding the work of the NRI leader both for the Asian community and the society as a whole, Straw who was the guest of honour said, "Keith has worked assiduously as an ambassador for New Britain. Keith represents everything that is good in our party."Straw, the Campaign Manager for Gordon Brown before he was unanimously elected as Leader of the Labour Party to succeed Tony Blair, said, "As a member of the campaign cell, Vaz played a key role in ensuring Brown's unanimous choice".Observing that Britain has undergone a change for the better during the last 20 years, Straw said, "Now we celebrate diversity in this country and we judge people by what they can offer and not by the colour of their eyes, hair or skin. Priyanka Chopra to lead India Day Parade in New York

Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra is set to lead the 27th India Day Parade as Grand Marshal in New York in August to celebrate the country's 60th Independence Day.The annual parade, which will be held on August 19, is organised in Manhattan by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) and attracts thousands of people every year. It is considered the biggest such event outside India.Announcing details of the parade at the Indian Consulate in New York on Wednesday, FIA president Shobhana Patel said comedian Johnny Lever would be the chief guest. The theme of the parade would be "Women's Shakti" (power), Patel said.Music composer A R Rahman , who is on a concert tour of the US, was present at the function. He was Grand Marshal for the 2006 parade.Known personalities who have participated in the past FIA parades include actresses Madhuri Dixit and Rekha, spiritual guru Morari Bapu, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former mayor Rudy Giuliani.Set up in 1981, FIA is a large, influential umbrella organisation of the Indian community in the US. It boasts of 300,000 members in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The objective of its annual India Day Parade is to project Indian Americans' progress and unity to other communities.

Katrina Kaif on a roll


Katrina Kaif has proved her detractors wrong with her acting in Vipul Shah’s movie Namastey London . And now she has signed a big movie to be made by Subhash Ghai .Not long ago, Katrina was labeled as “a silent beauty” because she could not speak fluent Hindi and therefore got her dialogues dubbed in movies. Critics also claimed that she did not know how to act and that she had an expressionless face.Though Katrina has been part of successful films like Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya and Sarkar , her roles in these films were not big enough for her to take much credit for the movie’s good run. But in ‘Namastey London’ she shares equal footage as the movie’s hero Akshay Kumar. And now, filmmaker Subhash Ghai has signed Katrina for his next film titled Main Yuvraj . The film will have three heroes: Salman Khan , Anil Kapoor and Zayed Khan .It is believed that Ghai was quite impressed by Katrina’s work in ‘Namastey London’ and decided to cast her in the role of a modern girl who is passionate about music. In Ghai’s words, Katrina suits the role perfectly.Katrina will have to learn a musical instrument for her role in ‘Main Yuvraj’. She is presently shooting for Abbas Mastan’s movie Race after which she will begin preparing for her role in Ghai’s film.‘Main Yuvraj’ will be an out-and-out musical film. A R Rahman will compose its music. Ghai himself will produce and direct the film.The movie will go on the floors in the first week of June this year.
